Fall Sunday School Quarter 2025

Garmer

Teacher: Rev. Shaw  Age: 70s+  Room:  1st Floor - Whitaker  Subject: "1 Samuel"

Murder, intrigue, insanity, heroes, villians, espionage, survival: what would God have us to learn from the stories of Saul's downfall and David's rise? God's people need leadership, and God raises it in the most ironic and foreshadowing of ways.

Agape

Teacher: Mr. M. Mullininx  Age: 60s Room:  2nd Floor - Whitaker  Subject: "Survey of the Bible's Story and Structure"

We will explore how the Bible is organized, from the familiar order found in most modern translations to the distinct arrangement of the Hebrew Scriptures. We will examine the chronological perspectives and then journey book-by-book, uncovering each text’s historical setting, purpose, key figures, and central themes. By the end, we will see how the Bible’s structure shapes our understanding of its message and how its grand narrative unfolds from Genesis to Revelation.

Emmaus

Teacher: Rev. Dr. Burt  Age: 50s  Room: 3rd Floor - Whitaker Subject: "Medieval Church History
Many Evangelicals tend to think of the era of Church history between the death of Augustine of Hippo in A.D. 430 and Martin Luther's theological discoveries in the early 1500s as a dark void. On the contrary, these "Middle Ages" set the stage for the world as we know it: intellectually, theologically, and politically. We will study philosophy and spirituality of the several thinkers and theologians that set the stage for the Reformation--and our own spirituality today.

Berean

Teacher: Mr. A. Becham  Age: 40s  Room: 4th Floor - Whitaker Subject: "Render to Caesar"

What does the Bible teach about the civil government? What kinds of duties do Christians and the state owe one another? How might Reformed and Presbyterian theologians help guide our thinking as we seek to follow Scriptures’ teaching in our day?

New Covenant

Teacher: Mr. B. Field  Age: 30s  Room: #30 - 3rd Floor Axson  Subject: "Jeremiah"
Few biblical characters were given more challenging missions than Jeremiah, and this quarter, we’ll look at the highs and lows of his life and message. For over four decades, Jeremiah stood as a lone minister of the Lord during Judah’s darkest days. From oracles of destruction and exile to promises of a new covenant and a branch of David, the book of Jeremiah plays a central role in our understanding of both God’s wrath and His mercy.

Jerusalem

Teacher: Dr. Gobel  Age: 20s  Room: #31 - 3rd Floor Axson Subject: "The City in Scripture"
The seventeenth-century English poet, Abraham Cowley, once noted that, “God the first garden made, and the first city Cain.” The city has long been viewed with great suspicion by Christians and yet we know that Lord is preparing an eternal city for his redeemed people. Even now, we are citizens of a city, “whose designer and builder is God.” How then should we, as citizens of the City of God, view the cities of this earth? This class will investigate this perennial question by examining Bible passages that concern cities from Genesis to Revelation.

College

Teacher: Rev. Gear  Age: Undergraduate  Room: Parlor - Hull Street Building
Subject: "Isaiah"
The church is said to be founded upon the apostles and prophets. Most of us are familiar with the apostles but not so with the prophets. Let’s read Isaiah, the first of the major prophets, together that we might hear the gospel from his pen and learn why they with apostles are so important for us, the church.
